Neurotoxin

Other Aesthetic Services:

What is Neurotoxin?

Neurotoxins, such as botox are used to relax the muscles in your face to smooth out lines and wrinkles, such as crow's feet and frown lines.

Neurotoxin Procedure
How does it work:

Injectable solutions that use a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin type A are known as cosmetic neurotoxins. These neurotoxins work by preventing nerve signals from reaching facial muscles, causing them to relax. As a result, wrinkles that form due to facial expressions like frowning or squinting are smoothed out.

PURPOSE

Botox is typically administered via injection, either into the muscles or the skin. The procedure is minimally invasive and usually takes only a few minutes to complete. The effects of botox are temporary and typically last between three and six months, after which the treatment will need to be repeated.

SIDE EFFECTS

The symptoms of botox use can vary depending on the dosage, the area of the body treated, and the individual's sensitivity to the toxin.

Common side effects of botox:

  • Pain at the injection site

  • Swelling at the injection site

  • Bruising at the injection site

  • Flu-like symptoms such as headache, fever, and muscle weakness.

TYPES OF NEUROTOXIN

There are several types of neurotoxins available, with the most commonly used being:

Botulinum toxin type A:

The most popular brand of botulinum toxin type A used in cosmetic dermatology is Botox. It works by blocking the nerve signals that cause muscle contractions, which in turn relaxes the muscles and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Botulinum toxin type B:

This type of botulinum toxin is less commonly used than type A, but it works in a similar way to relax muscles and reduce wrinkles.

Jeuveau:

Also known as "Newtox," Jeuveau is a newer brand of botulinum toxin type A. It works in a similar way to Botox but is marketed specifically for treating the "11" lines between the eyebrows.

Dysport:

Another brand of botulinum toxin type A, Dysport is similar to Botox but may diffuse more widely in the skin, making it more effective for treating larger areas of wrinkles.

Xeomin:

This type of botulinum toxin type A is similar to Botox and Dysport, but it is produced using a different manufacturing process.

Each type of neurotoxin has its own unique characteristics, including onset and duration of action, diffusion, and injection techniques. It's important to consult with a qualified dermatologist to determine which type of neurotoxin is best suited for an individual's specific needs and desired outcomes.
